Oxytocin promotes socially triggered cataplexy

In people with narcolepsy, cataplexy is often triggered by strong emotions in social situations. Mahoney et al. show that such cataplexy is mediated by oxytocin-responsive neurons in the amygdala that target brainstem regions regulating motor tone.
