We aim to revolutionize diagnosis, prediction, and treatment of Neurological Diseases – by decoding their genetic and neurobiological roots.
Our Hypothesis
Many neurological conditions are neuro-developmental, and are caused by :
- Shared genetic variants
- Disrupted brain development
- Impaired social-emotional circuitry (hormones, brain signalling)
- They reflect different expressions of the same core issues
Why do we think these are genetic disorders?
- Strong inherited component
- Present in early childhood
- Persistent to treatment
- Proven physiological and genetic differences
Historically, many types of neurological diversity, disorders or diseases have been interpreted from a moralistic point-of-view. For example, addiction has been wrongly described as “lack of character”, or autism as being “not able to concentrate”. Consequently, understanding and empathy from the world has been lacking, people have been socially excluded, and people have lacked support. We now know, from extensive genetic and neurological research, that a lot of personality traits, including different forms of neurodivergence are genetic, or developmental, and that simple talking-therapies, or punishment, is not going to work to modify the behaviour, or create understanding and inclusion.
Our approach is thus radically different – we want to enable people suffering from neurodiversity, psychological disorders, or neuro-developmental disorders to be truly understood. Properly diagnosed in a fine-grained way. Able to understand and express how they are different, what are their strengths, and areas to work on. So that they can live longer, happier, and more fulfilling and successful lives.
